Creating the Best Home
Theater for You and Your Family
When it comes to creating a
home theater for you and your family, there are a few things
you should consider during your planning stages. A home theater
can be expensive to set up. The costs can start at several
hundred dollars if you plan to put in a system on a budget and
then upgrade later. Or, if you are going for quality from day
one, the costs can be in the thousands of dollars.
Here are some things to consider:
Location
The room you use for your home theater should
have few distractions. That includes windows where light is
constantly shining whether it is night or day. The draperies
normally used in a room will not shield all the light from
streaming in. If you do not have a windowless area such as a
basement, you should use heavy blackout curtains at the window
to prevent glare and light.
Speakers
A home movie theater needs quality sound. You
want the sound to be as close to the sound you hear in a movie theater as
possible. This means that you will need a good surround
sound system. If you visit a high-end audio-video store,
they will have DVDs with good quality sound tracks to use
to test the quality of the speakers. Speakers come in all
shapes, sizes, and styles, and most importantly, in
different price ranges. If you are on a budget, you should
get the best quality speakers you can afford. You can
upgrade later. You will need at least five speakers: two
for the front, a center channel speaker, and two speakers
for the back. You will also need a subwoofer.
Installation of the components is very
important for a quality home theater system. You can do it
yourself, but you must read the directions
that come with each component. You also want to make sure you
read the instructions for set-up and operation. Read through
the instructions before you start.
Most audio-video stores will install your home
theater system. There are also independent installers listed in
the Yellow Pages. Your home theater will not be what you
envisioned if the installation is not properly done.
A home theater with a good surround sound
system is a room the entire family can enjoy.
