The components that make up
the basic home theater are the receiver, the speakers, the DVD
player, and the important piece, the television. The television
you select for your home theater will determine the other
components you purchase.
Screen size is not the most important factor in
selecting your television. Space has to be a major
consideration when selecting the television for your home
theater system. Look at your room. The design is important.
How large is the room?
Does it have a low ceiling or cathedral ceiling?
This is an important consideration for the
television you purchase as well as the other components.
There are certain rules of thumb for viewing
television to gain the best viewing experience. For every foot
away from the set when you are watching cable television, you will want four inches of
diagonal screen. For viewing satellite television and
DVDs, you will want five inches per foot, and six inches
per foot if you are viewing high definition
television.
When you see a television in a retail store or
sit in one of the rooms of a high-end audio-video store, you
will view the television in way the retailer entices buyers for
a sale. In the special viewing rooms, look at how far you are
sitting from the television. Do you like the picture? Is it
distorted in any way? Usually, in the high-end stores, they
will set the room up for optimum viewing. This does mean that
the fifty-six inch screen is going to be optimum for your room.
If you do not sit a proper distance from your television when
viewing it, the picture will look bad.
You should also consider the price. When you
are creating your own home theater, you may have a budget.
Television sets can be very expensive depending on whether you
select one that is high definition and there are other
components you will need to complete the home theater.
When you purchase your television, the
salesperson will ask if you want an extended warranty. This
adds to the price of your television. It is not included in the
sticker price.
Carefully consider the type of television you
want for your home theater. Your room plays and important part
in selecting your television. Most rooms used as a home theater
are not huge and we do not sit more than twelve feet from the
television. You may not need a huge screen to have a good
viewing experience. The television you select will take a big
chunk out of the budget for your home theater system.
